Central Florida 100: SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THE MILITARY

Carol Wick, CEO, Sharity
Last week: SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THE MILITARY: A military survey found 20,000 service members experienced sexual assault last year. A CBS News investigation revealed significant numbers were retaliated against. Nowhere is the “permissive” culture of sexual assault more pervasive than Fort Hood, where 14 officers and enlisted soldiers were disciplined following an independent probe in the wake of Vanessa Guillen’s slaying and about two dozen other deaths. The Army also ordered policy changes to address chronic leadership failures that contributed to widespread sexual violence, including murder, sexual assault, and harassment. If our military institutions can’t protect our enlisted, how can we expect them to defend our nation?
