Kat Duesterhaus

Kat Duesterhaus, who identifies as non-binary and uses the pro-nouns they/them, is a sexual violence survivor and activist working to shift Rape Culture to a Culture of Consent. Kat is Chair of Florida N.O.W.‘ s End Violence Against Women Task Force, and a member of RAINN’s Speakers Bureau, Florida Council Against Sexual Violence’s Survivor Caucus, and the Sexual Assault Response Teams of Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach County. Kat has given dozens of news media interviews and been very involved in legislative change realting to sexual assault, by providing testimony before Florida legislators and as a digital organizer. Recent successes include Donna’s Law, which passed with unanimous support to eliminate the time limits for prosecuting sexual assault of a minor, Gail’s Law, which creates a Rape Kit Tracking System in Florida, and SB 1530 / HB 1189, which requires all law enforcement in Florida to recieve Trauma Informed Training and establishes Sexual Assault Response Teams and Protocals statewide. Kat is a seasoned Media professional with a BFA from OTIS College of Art & Design and works mainly with non-profits in digital media marketing, from visual storytelling with graphic design and videography to public relations and media strategy. Kat has leveraged their knowledge of audience development and engagement to raise awareness to end sexual violence.
